Collective bargaining for government employees enabled the Union political machine to raid the treasuries built by the citizens of these states.
Collective bargaining set the stage for the largest portions of the state deficits. I completely believe that all govt workers should be paid fairly and should be paying their equivalent share for benefits.
Eliminating collective bargaining keeps the union out of the pockets of those who don't want to pay dues and reduces their ability to spend millions of politicians. Getting rid of it also enables local school districts to control and design compensation packages based on merit.
The unions fill their coffers with black-mailed dues and spend in to ever-increase pay and benefits while protecting worthless teachers for merit evaluation with tenure and last hired-first fired layoff agreements ...
This alone didn't create the beast. But it fed it like nothing else.
Originally introduced as a way to make public employee compensation on par with public counterparts, it was used by the UNIONS as their trojan horse and they continued ratcheting up pay levels relentlessly to this day.
Two questions.
What happened to the idea " I work as a (blank) but the benefits make up for the pay" and WHO ELSE HAS A PENSION-ANYBODY other than Government union people?
hmmmm.
I guess this makes the the favored ones...
The States cannot afford this largess now and never really could before.
Go on. Don't give in Unions... and watch the States file bankruptcy and nullify ALL agreements on pay and compensation...
